25G SFP28
The 25G SFP28 (Small Form-factor Pluggable 28) transceiver is the industry-standard solution for high-speed single-lane connectivity, bridging the gap between legacy 10G and high-density 100G networks. It uses a single 25Gbps lane that typically employs NRZ (Non-Return to Zero) modulation to maintain signal integrity while delivering 2.5 times the throughput of SFP+ modules. These transceivers operate by converting electrical signals from networking hardware into high-speed optical pulses for transmission over fiber optic cables, providing a streamlined and power-efficient upgrade path for modern data centers.
The primary features of 25G SFP28 modules include their compact footprint, which is identical to the SFP+ form factor, allowing for high port density and backward compatibility with 10G ports in many systems. They are built to comply with IEEE 802.3by and SFP28 MSA standards, ensuring reliable interoperability across different vendor platforms like Cisco, Dell, and HPE. Additionally, most modules feature Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM/DOM), which provides real-time tracking of critical operating parameters such as temperature, voltage, and optical power to ensure network stability.
25G SFP28 transceivers are widely deployed in hyperscale data centers, enterprise networks, and 5G fronthaul infrastructure where high bandwidth and low latency are essential. They are the preferred choice for server-to-switch (Top-of-Rack) connectivity and leaf-spine architectures, efficiently handling data-intensive workloads like cloud computing and high-frequency trading. Whether used in short-reach multimode (SR) or long-reach single-mode (LR) applications, these modules provide the scalability required to support the exponential growth of global internet traffic.
