Description
The Fiber Optic OTDR Launch Cable Box is a professional tool designed for fiber optic testing, certification, and troubleshooting. Commonly called a “Pulse Suppressor,” it provides a 1km length of high-quality G.650 single-mode fiber between the OTDR and the Link Under Test (LUT). This extra fiber allows the OTDR optics to stabilize, eliminating the initial “Dead Zone” and ensuring that the first connector and patch panel connections in a network are accurately measured and fully visible.
Internally, the fiber is precision-wound with controlled tension to maintain low attenuation of less than 0.35 dB/km. This careful design ensures that OTDR traces are clean, accurate, and representative of true network performance, allowing technicians to identify faults, losses, or reflection points without interference from the launch setup itself.
The launch cable box is encased in a rugged high-density polyethylene (HDPE) housing that is waterproof, dustproof, and impact-resistant. Designed for harsh outside plant (OSP) environments, it can withstand rough handling in field installations. A continuous, splice-free fiber strand prevents internal reflections and ensures stable, ghost-free OTDR readings, improving the reliability of network certification and maintenance processes.

FAQ
What is the purpose of an OTDR launch cable box?
It provides a controlled fiber segment between the OTDR and the network under test, eliminating the initial Dead Zone and allowing accurate measurement of the first connector.
Why is a continuous, splice-free fiber important?
A splice-free fiber prevents internal reflections that can produce ghost peaks in OTDR traces, ensuring accurate and clean measurement results.
What connector types are included in this launch box?
This model uses SC/APC on the OTDR input side and SC/UPC on the network side, providing compatibility with common fiber equipment.
Can this launch box be used in outdoor environments?
Yes, the HDPE housing is waterproof, dustproof, and impact-resistant, making it suitable for outside plant (OSP) deployment.
What is the fiber attenuation of this launch cable?
The internal G.650 single-mode fiber has a low attenuation of less than 0.35 dB/km, ensuring accurate OTDR measurement.
